Overview

"1000% over budget. 2 years late. We've all heard about projects where the original budget and schedule were exceeded by orders of magnitude. How could this happen given competent project management? Whether in government or private industry, project managers face a huge challenge when confronted with continually-changing requirements. How can you plan when the WBS keeps changing? Traditional project management approaches suggest that we take a snapshot of the requirements as a baseline, and then use change control in an attempt to minimize the impact of any shifting requirements. Sometimes, however, these changes are a reality that the project sponsor has to accommodate. The new Agile Project Management methods help deal with these situations.

Listeners of this session will learn the founding principles and techniques of Agile Project Management with examples from real-world projects that used these methods to control changing requirements."

Good content, hard to hear questions

The content in this audiobook was good for beginners who have no idea what Agile development is and how to manage a project in that type of environment. The one main problem on this audiobook was the sound. There is nothing wrong with the recording of the CD, but rather that it is recorded from a live lecture. The microphone on the speaker squeaks at points and he even mentions that the noise happens on occassion at the venue he is delivering the lecture. There are also questions from the audience that you cannot hear. The speaker does reiterate the question on most cases, but when the question is being asked, it's a pain to try to hear. If you can get past the North Dakota accent, where the speaker pronouces project as pro-ject (not pr-ah-ject) and process as pro-cess (and not pr-ah-cess), and you are interestes in a basic level understanding of Agile development and managing projects within an Agile environemtn then it's worth listening to.

Not very useful

Based on the title, I was hoping for practical advice on managing projects and practices to follow. Instead this piece begins with a history of agile development methods (SCRUM, Crystal, Extreme Programming, etc.), and spends a lot of time framing the problem and talking about the benefits of agile methods, with rather little content regarding about the actual practises that should be followed. I also have an issue with the format. This is a recording of a presentation that was made to an audience, and the audience asks questions throughout the presentation but we can't hear the questions resulting in long annoying pauses throughout.
